The Admin. Order n.103 of 20 July 2021, converted into law n.125 of 16 September 2021, declares the urban waterways of San Marco Basin, San Marco Canal and Giudecca Canal of Venice a national monument. In these waterways, starting from 1 August 2021, the transit of ships having at any one of the following characteristics is prohibited: a) gross tonnage exceeding 25,000 GT; b) hull length at waterline greater than 180 metres; c) height from the waterline (air draft) greater than 35 metres, excluding ships with mixed sail - engine propulsion; (4) d) use of fuel during manoeuvering with sulphur content equal to or greater than 0.1 per cent.
In this context, Admin.Order 103 charges the Special Commissioner with the task of proceeding:

Creation of temporary mooring points
no more than 5, of which 2 are already available from the 2022 cruise season, plus the Chioggia quay, also intended for passenger ships of a gross tonnage equal to or greater than 25,000 GT
Point 2
Maintenance of existing canals
Works and maintenance excavations of existing canals to allow navigation.
Point 3
Accessory interventions
Accessory interventions to improve nautical accessibility and navigation safety.
Point 4
Promotion of studies
Promotion of hydrogeological, geomorphological and archaeological studies aimed at protecting Venice and its Lagoon.
